Reluctant Deity

Created as part of my Master’s in Animation, Games & Interactivity, this mixed-media 2D animated short follows a group of small, shape-like creatures who discover a giant cat and begin to worship it as a deity. As more and more creatures gather to seek its affection, the cat remains indifferent, even swatting them away. Eventually, the shapes give up, heartbroken by the cat’s lack of interest. But in their absence, the cat begins to miss them and slowly approaches, learning to appreciate their presence.

What begins as a whimsical tale unfolds into a meditation on self-worth, acceptance, and the nature of unconditional love. The story reflects my journey with my cat and how that relationship helped me navigate struggles with mental health. It explores the idea that love and connection can’t be forced, they grow when we let ourselves be seen as we truly are.
